Anthony Martin took pole position for the first USF2000 race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, following a post-qualifying penalty that stripped Luke Gabin of a very first pole in the category.

Gabin, who is second in the championship, had his best time of 1m26.1s – nearly four-tenths quicker than his fellow Australian Martin’s best time – deleted after missing the chequered flag?at the end of qualifying. Gabin will now have to start the race from the rear of the field.

After the penalty, Martin secured pole position by just 0.069 seconds over his Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing teammate Parker Thompson, who swept both races at Barber Motorsports Park in April and leads the championship.

The second row will feature race-winner?Jordan Lloyd ahead of?Victor Franzoni. Another race winner,?Yufeng Luo, qualified fifth place, ahead of his Pabst Racing teammate?Garth Rickards in sixth, and?Nikita Lastochkin in seventh.

Cameron Das emerged as the fastest rookie in the field, qualifying eighth on the grid for JAY Motorsports. The John Cummiskey Racing duo of rookie?Lucas Kohl and?Ayla Agren complete the top ten.
