Double pole for Lynn at Manfeild

by Peter Allen

Alex Lynn boosted his championship hopes in the Toyota Racing Series finale at Manfeild by taking a double pole position in a revised qualifying format ahead of the season finale at Manfeild.

Englishman Lynn topped the opening two sessions and followed that with the second fastest time in the new superpole session behind fellow title challenger Lucas Auer. That secured him both the best time from the opening two sessions – equating to pole for race one – and the best average time from all three sessions – handing him pole for race three, the New Zealand Grand Prix.

Steijn Schothorst was third quickest in session one and second in session two to land P2 for race one ahead of championship leader Nick Cassidy and Auer. Pipo Derani was fifth with Schothorst’s brother Pieter Schothorst in sixth for his TRS debut. Bruno Bonifacio, Ignazio D’Agosto, Jann Mardenborough and Felix Serrallles rounded out the top ten for race one.

Cassidy secured a place on the front row alongside Lynn for his defence of the NZGP title ahead of Steijn Schothorst, Bonifacio, Pieter Schothorst, D’Agosto, Derani, Mardenborough, Serralles and Andrew Tang.

The grid for race two, as asual, will be determined by a marble draw to reverse the top four, six or eight finishers from race one.
